Lyric Analysis

For my English class, we had to find a song that had metaphors, and other literary devices, in it. I chose the song Bullet by Hollywood Undead. Metaphors will be like this, similes like this, hyperboles like this, and personification like this.

My legs are dangling off the edge,
The bottom of the bottle is my only friend,
I think I'll slit my wrists again and I'm gone, gone, gone, gone.
My legs are dangling off the edge,
A stomach full of pills didn't work again,
I'll put a bullet in my head and I'm gone, gone, gone, gone.

Gone too far and yeah I'm gone again,
It's gone on too long, tell you how it ends,
I'm sitting on the edge with my 2 best friends,
Ones a bottle of pills, ones a bottle of gin,
I'm 20 stories up, yeah I'm up at the top,
I'll polish off this bottle, now it's pushing me off,
Asphalt to me has never looked so soft,
I bet my momma found my letter, now shes calling the cops,
I gotta take this opportunity before I miss it,
'Cause now I hear the sirens and they're off in the distance,
Believe me when I tell you that I've been persistent,
'Cause I'm more scarred, more scarred my wrist is,
I've been trying too long, with too dull of a knife,
But tonight I made sure that I sharpened it twice,
I never bought a suit before in my life,
But when you go to meet God, you know you wanna look nice.

So if I survive, then I'll see you tomorrow, yeah I'll see you tomorrow.

My legs are dangling off the edge,
The bottom of the bottle is my only friend,
I think I'll slit my wrists again and I'm gone, gone, gone, gone,
My legs are dangling off the edge,
A stomach full of pills didn't work again,
I'll put a bullet in my head and I'm gone, gone, gone, gone.

We hit the sky, there goes the light, no more sun, why's it always night?
When you can't sleep, well, you can't dream,
When you can't dream, well, what's life mean?
We feel a little pity, but don't empathize
The old are getting older, watch a young man die,
A Mother and a Son and someone you know, smile at each other and realize you don't,
You don't know what happened to that kid you raised,
What happened to the Father, who swore he'd stay?
I didn't know 'cause you didn't say,
Now Momma feels guilt, yeah Momma feels pain,
When you were young, you never thought you'd die,
Found that you could but too scared to try,
You looked in the mirror and you said goodbye,
Climb to the roof to see if you could fly.

I wish that I could fly, way up in the sky
Like a bird so high,
Oh I might just try,
I wish that I could fly, way up in the sky,
Like a bird so high,
Oh I might just try,
Oh I might just try.

My Chemical Romance

If any of you are fans of their work, then I'm sure you heard that My Chemical Romance has officially broken up. They posted a statement on Friday (March 22, 2013) night on their official website. This was their website post:

"Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."
- My Chemical Romance

I was such a huge fan of their work, and I still am. I'm so sad to see them go, but I know that they wouldn't have made this choice without thinking it through completely. I suppose they just thought that now was the time to move on. After 12 years, some change might be nice for them.

Also, I'm assuming that, if you're a fan, you have heard about the entire scandal with Mikey Way and his 20-year-old mistress, even though he's still married. Don't blame the break-up on that. Gerard tweeted that the whole fiasco has nothing to do with the break-up.

Good luck getting on without them!

Spotlight Lyrics

I realized that it might be a bit hard for you to understand what Patrick Stump says in Spotlight, so here are the lyrics.

Spotlight (Oh Nostalgia) - Patrick Stump

Every word's a new regret if you say it right, right
Every wound can be forgotten in the right light
Oh nostalgia, I don't need you anymore
Cause the silent days are over and the beat is at my door
Cause they might try to tell you how you can live your life
But don't, don't forget it's your right, to do whatever you like, you like
Cause you could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight, you could be the star, you can shine so bright, e-o, e-o,
You could be your own, cause they're gonna tell you all the rules to break
To take away that light, somebody, somebody now
You could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight.

Depression is a little bit like happy hour, right
It's always gotta be happening somewhere on any given night
Oh nostalgia I don't need you anymore
I just hope my perfect stranger that my kids look more like yours
Cause they might, they might, try to tell you how you can live your life
But don't, don't forget it's your right to do whatever you like, you like
Cause you could be your own spot light, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight, you could be the star, you can shine so bright, e-o, e-o,
You could be your own, cause they're gonna tell you all the rules to break
To take away that light, somebody, somebody now
You could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o
You could be your own, cause I had a little bit of bad luck
Oh, when will this crumbling world stop
Little sweetness keeps just out of reach
Cause compassion is something that they just don't, just don't teach, teach
Cause you could be your own spot light, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight, you could be the star, you can shine so bright, e-o, e-o,
You could be your own, cause they're gonna tell you all the rules to break
To take away that light, somebody, somebody now
You could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o
You could be your own spotlight, e-o, e-o

YouTube link

Here's the link to the YouTube page of My Chemical Romance. I would suggest watching their music video for Teenagers first. It's my favorite song of theirs, though Welcome to the Black Parade is definately a close second.

Spotlight (Oh Nostalgia) - Patrick Stump

Well, I can't sleep, so here's the music video for the song I was talking about earlier, Spotlight (Oh Nostalgia) - Patrick Stump.

Music is my passion

Hi. My name is Kate. I'm 14 years of age. I have a slight obsession passion for music. If you ask me to pick a favorite band, I couldn't.
I love to write song lyrics, but I can't put them to music. I try, but it might be easier if I could learn to play guitar first. I used to play piano, but I haven't for a few years. I still write piano music, though I think most of it is rubbish.
I don't know what I would do with my life if I didn't have music. I spend hours each day listening to different artists. I have to say that my favorite medium of listening to music is to use Pandora radio. I'm always discovering new bands and indie artists. I don't even download music anymore. I just go on Pandora, or on YouTube if I want to listen to a specific song.
Song lyrics seem to speak to me on an emotional level. My current favorite song is Spotlight (Oh Nostalgia) - Patrick Stump.
